Wardlaw University POW: Class of 2022 Hiram Hornets running back Adonis Dessin
A 2019 article by MaxPreps cited by Wardlaw in a tweet said that 'Peach State' had produced 'the No. 3 most of top 500 football recruits of any state." Why FCS, D2 schools should consider offering...
Adonis Dessin, a Class of 2022 running back who stars for Hiram, a program competing in Georgia’s 5A, is our ‘spotlight player’ of the Week.
Adonis Dessin is a 5-foot-10, 200-pound Class of 2022 running back hailing from the Hiram High School Hornets in Hiram, Georgia. In 2021, he rushed for 1,300 yards in ten contests, averaging a solid 130 yards per game in the Georgia High School League (GHSL)'s rough-and-tumble 5A division.
Dessin was a bright spot in a season of struggle for the Hornets, who finished 1-9. "We didn't have the season we hoped for. We had a lot of freshman and sophomores," he said.
That doesn't dimmish his accomplishments competing in one of America's toughest states for high school football, though.
(@WardlawUniversity sees it as the No. 3 ranked state for overall talent in the country.)
It’s still unknown how his abilities would translate fully on the field collegiately, but from the context of the storyline, his efforts could be depicted as a ‘high school version’ of the University of South Carolina’s running back Kevin Harris in 2020, who finished with 1,138 yards and 15 touchdowns on 185 carries, earning First Team All-SEC Awards at the end of the season.
How does it tie to Dessin? Well, similarly to Harris, he was playing the role of the underdog against a big boy against tough competition: South Carolina, in the SEC, and Hiram, in the GHSL’s Class 5A.
Colleges are taking notice, as well. Dessin said that he has offers from Availa, Bethany, Berry, Birmingham-Southern, Carthage, Culver, Elmhurst, Luther, Rochester, Rose-Helman, Stockton, and Waynesburg.
The running back works hard in the weight room, benching 275 pounds and squatting 405. When he's not practicing, playing, or sharpening his athletic skills in the Hornets intensive' strength and conditioning program, Dessin also does his due diligence in the classroom, earning a 3.3 cumulative grade point average.
Coaches and scouts from FCS, Division 2 schools, perhaps this is an underrated ball carrier that you should take a look at as the 2022 signing deadline approaches. In a state ‘chock’ full of high school football talent like Georgia, Texas, Florida, and Louisiana, there’s got to be some “diamonds in the rough” that offer an opportunity to ‘better’ your football team.
