No. 2 Class of 2027 QB Kahden Davis and the Next Level Greats: QB of the Future Explains Impact of 7-on-7 Football
QB explains the power of competing with NLG and Marcus Hammond, founder of elite New Jersey developmental program
Tinton Falls, NJ: Kahden Davis is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound Class of 2027 signal-caller who is ranked No. 2 overall on QB Hit List, the largest quarterback recruiting football website in the United States.
The 13-year old stars for the Next Level Greats, a premier quarterback, wide receiver, and defensive back training organization based in South New Jersey established by head coach Marcus Hammond in 2012. Since its inception nine years ago, the team has established itself as one of the best 7-on-7 programs in the nation.
"I think that NLG is a really awesome program with great coaches," Davis said. They focus on teaching, and because of that, we are successful," he said.
"Interacting with my teammates, players at other programs, and going on trips to tournaments is an experience like no other. Founder and coach Marcus Hammond makes it a point to coach up every player in the program," he said.
Davis said that his time with the organization has been incredible so far. Being able to showcase his skills in tournaments nationwide has also allowed him to get his name out years in advance of his college recruitment timeline.
Due to COVID-19, Davis didn't play in Fall 2020, so working with Next Level Greats provided him an opportunity to get extra reps under center, one he may have never gotten without Hammond's organization.
NLG's staff of assistant coaches has provided incredible support to Davis, teaching him the in's and out's of the quarterback position. "They were right beside me each week, helping me to make quicker and more accurate reads while also learning to see the field," he said.
Hammond's program has also allowed Davis to grow as a teammate. With football being a game of 11 players on each side of the ball, developing intangibles is a must for student-athletes looking to strive to the next level. It's also especially important to develop lasting relationships in the early stages of a player's life.
"NLG has allowed me to meet friends and teammates I may have never gotten a chance to meet. The program also taught me to distribute the ball evenly to all of my teammates throughout the games and let playmakers go make plays.
"It helped me work on my leadership skills as well," he added.
Davis's results translated tremendously on the field this fall, completing 60 of 87 passes for 1,236 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions, along with 629 rushing yards on 52 attempts, recording 6 touchdowns on 12.1 yards per carry.
With a tremendous 68.9 completion percentage, Kahden rumbled his way to 1,865 all-purpose offensive yards and 18 total touchdowns, along with quietly becoming a utility two-way player, recording 36 tackles on defense.
